Rev. Daphne Mathebula

SDMI is the branch of the Church of the Nazarene concerned with enabling the intentional making of Christ-like disciples in the nations. The ministry’s role in the Church is to mobilize, organize, sensitize and remind people of the importance of intentional discipleship.

The SDMI ministry wishes to see individuals in the Church becoming more like Christ and the Church itself becoming like His body. Transformation of communities and effectiveness within the local Church is a focal point for SDMI.

On the 16th of December 2016, SDMI participated in the Nazarene Youth Convention (NYC) which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. A presentation exposing the youth to a better understanding of the role of SDMI in the local Church was given by the ministry’s coordinator, Rev. Daphne Mathebula. The Nazarene Youth International (NYI) ministry, which hosted the event, and SDMI work closely together – the leadership of NYI also serves on the board of SDMI.

At local Church level, which is essentially the SDMI ministry’s work hub, a partnership exists with Children’s Ministry directors for compiling programmes for teaching children about the Word. The efforts, however extend to developing materials for teaching programmes used in classes for youth and adults, in partnership with local SDMI superintendents.

From 20 to 24 June 2017, a Satellite SDMI Convention will take place. The main event will be held in Indianapolis, USA, with satellite-facilitated attendance for the Africa region made available at the Good News Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Convention delegates and visitors are equipped and empowered to fulfil the mission and purpose of SDMI globally through inspiration, motivation and training.

SDMI’s work is spread out in the local Church across both rural and urban areas. The ministry also reaches impermanent worship communities, such as refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia.
