A New Chapter of Faith and Hope in Walodia – Angola
A special church dedication service was held at the Capernaum Church of the Nazarene in Walodia II, Namibe, Angola, marking a significant milestone in the growth and ministry of the Church of the Nazarene in the area.
The construction of the new church building was made possible through the generous support of Beol-Mal Church of the Nazarene in Korea, under the leadership of Rev Sang Eul Cho. Their partnership provided the Capernaum congregation with a permanent place to gather for worship, fellowship and ministry within the Walodia II community.
The vision for the project began when the late FSC Mutowa visited Angola and became aware of the needs and opportunities for the Church of the Nazarene in the area. During her home assignment in Korea, Missionary Yeon Shil Noh visited Beol-Mal Church of the Nazarene, where the congregation expressed a desire to support the construction of a church building in Africa.
Missionary Noh shared the congregation’s desire with the late Field Strategy Coordinator (FSC), Rev Cosmos Mutowa, who suggested the Capernaum preaching point in the Walodia II area of Angola as a suitable location for the new church. At the time, Capernaum was a preaching point, but the congregation needed a dedicated space where believers could gather and where the ministry could continue to grow.
Through the partnership between the church in Korea and the Nazarene ministry in Angola, the vision gradually became a reality. What began as a conversation about helping a congregation in Africa ultimately resulted in a new church building that will serve the Capernaum congregation and the surrounding community for decades to come.
The dedication service celebrated not only the completion of the building, but also the partnership and generosity that made it possible. Church leaders and members gathered to give thanks to God and dedicate the new facility to His work.
The new Capernaum Church of the Nazarene now provides a place where the congregation can worship, disciple believers, reach its community and continue sharing the message of Christ in Walodia II. The project is also a reminder of the global connection of the Church of the Nazarene, as a congregation in Korea partnered with believers in Angola—Nazarenes halfway around the world—to help strengthen the local church and its ministry.
What began with a simple desire to help build a church in Africa has become a lasting place of worship and ministry for the Capernaum congregation.
