Little Missionaries, Big Dreams for God

The Cabo Verde North District Church of the Nazarene hosted a Children’s Missionary Orientation Camp (ACOMI) from 11-13 July 2025, at the SOS Social Centre in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde. This camp was for children aged 6-12 with the goal of teaching and inspiring them to become disciples of Christ, enabling them to share God’s love and the Gospel message with their communities and beyond.

Fifty-two (52) children enjoyed the camp built around the “Little Missionaries, Big Dreams for God” with services and worship moments, as well as creative workshops and activities such as painting and handcrafts that were designed to reinforce biblical teachings. No camp is complete without games, and the games at ACOMI were designed to teach cooperation, respect and love for others. One of the special events of the camp was an evening where the children dressed-up to represent different African countries, showing how the Gospel can reach everyone.

The vision of the Children’s Missionary Orientation Camp – ACOMI was to create an environment where children can be awakened and empowered for the mission of sharing God’s love with the world. The main objective was to train little missionaries, teaching them Christian values, biblical principles and missionary practices in a playful, interactive and engaging way.

The idea arose from some common needs and inspirations in the context of the church and missions to implement missionary awareness from childhood and to understand the importance of involving children in Jesus’ great commandment from an early age. The organization of ACOMI involved the following stages: defining the purpose and theme; forming a team; logistical planning; programming, publicity and registration. From there, meetings were held, volunteers mobilised, and the first ACOMI was held – perhaps initially small, but we believe it will grow over the years.
