Postcard from Africa: Liberia
“My name is John*, and I come from a small village in Nimba County, Liberia. For many years, my life was filled with confusion and darkness. I followed the traditions passed down from my ancestors, participating in rituals and ceremonies that were part of our village life. But deep inside, I always felt something was missing, an emptiness that none of these practices could fill.
“One evening, everything changed when the Jesus Film came to our village. I had heard rumours about this film, but I wasn’t sure what to expect. I went out of curiosity, not knowing it would change my life forever. As I sat and watched the story of Jesus unfold, I was moved in a way I had never experienced before. I saw His love, His sacrifice and His resurrection, and it felt like He was speaking directly to me. Tears filled my eyes as I realised that this was the peace I had been searching for.
“At the end of the film, when the invitation was made to accept Jesus into our lives, I knew I couldn’t wait any longer. That night, I surrendered my life to Christ and felt a weight lift off my shoulders. Since that day, I have experienced a peace and joy that I never knew was possible. The emptiness is gone, and my heart is full of hope.
“Now, I pray every day for strength in my new journey with Christ. I am praying for my family and friends in the village, that their eyes would be opened to the truth and that they would experience the love of Jesus. I also pray for our community, that we would grow in unity and love and that many more would come to know the saving grace of our Lord.”
