Africa Youth Workers’ Conference
There is a saying across many African communities: “A tree with strong roots laughs at storms.” From 26–29 July 2026, just outside Accra, Ghana, that proverb came alive as 490 youth leaders from 29 nations across the continent gathered for the second Africa Region Youth Workers’ Conference. Led by Africa Region NYI Coordinator Rev Shaun Bati, the conference carried the theme: Rooted, Relevant, Renewed and Resilient.
The biennial conference brought together pastors, district NYI presidents, youth workers, ministry volunteers and emerging leaders united by one purpose: to be equipped, encouraged and sent back into their communities to make Christlike disciples.
Through plenary sessions, workshops and evening services, participants were challenged, encouraged and equipped for ministry among the next generation.
The plenary sessions did not shy away from difficult questions. Dr Gift Mtukwa spoke on Nazarene Identity and Missions, reminding leaders that before they minister to culture, they must first be anchored in Christ. Rev David Ewagata challenged participants to engage in today’s youth culture not with fear, but with holy curiosity and courage. Rev David Gonzalez, Global NYI Director, delivered a message on The Church and the Next Generation that many described as a summons, a reminder that the future of the Church is not a distant concern but a present responsibility resting in the hands of those gathered.
Each evening service reinforced the day’s theme, helping participants connect biblical teaching with practical ministry. Speakers included Africa JGS Dr Scott Daniels, Rev Shaun Bati, Rev Leniza Soares, and Pastor Lydie Gomis, who challenged and inspired those in attendance. Every session pointed back to one central conviction: youth ministry is not merely a programme of the Church—it is part of God’s mission to make Christlike disciples.
Conference highlights included morning workout sessions, practical workshops led by experienced youth ministry leaders and opportunities for fellowship that enabled participants to build lasting relationships with fellow Nazarenes from across Africa. Attendees also enjoyed vibrant times of praise, worship and dancing, because no African gathering is complete without joyful celebration.
We thank God for every individual who sacrificed their time and resources to travel to Accra and participate in this inspiring conference. May the leaders who gathered in Ghana continue to be rooted in Christ, remain relevant to their communities, live renewed by the Holy Spirit and stand resilient in the calling God has placed upon their lives. When youth workers are equipped, churches are strengthened. When churches are strengthened, communities and ultimately nations are transformed for the glory of God.
