FSC Named for Horn of Africa

Join the Africa Region in celebrating the appointment of Dr. Aweis Ali as the Field Strategy Coordinator for the newly restructured Horn of Africa Field (HOAF), effective immediately. A Somali-born leader with a strong commitment to evangelism and leadership growth, Aweis brings decades of ministry experience.

He became a Christian in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1986, after listening to radio broadcasts. From 1993 to 1996, he served as a house church pastor. In 1996, he joined the Church of the Nazarene in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he began a ministry as an evangelist. Since then, Aweis has held various leadership roles across the Horn of Africa, including district superintendent and Horn of Africa Mission Coordinator.

In 2005, he and his wife were appointed as global missionaries, expanding their influence and service in the region. Before dedicating himself full-time to ministry, he also worked with international organizations like UNOSOM, UNICEF, and Samaritan’s Purse in Somalia.

Aweis earned a Bachelor of Theology from Evangelical Theological College in Addis Ababa, a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, and a PhD from Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya.

In his new role, Aweis is especially passionate about fostering reconciliation and demonstrating Christlike character within the church. He is driven by a vision to effectively share the Gospel with underserved and hard-to-reach communities. One of his favorite scriptures that reflects his faith and perseverance is 2 Timothy 3:12: “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”

Aweis is married to LeCrecia, who shares his calling and dedication to ministry in Africa. The Ali family has six children. Let us pray for Dr. Aweis and Rev. LeCrecia as they take on this new responsibility. Let us pray for God’s guidance and strength to sustain them in this assignment.
