A Momentous Celebration

On 15 June 2025, the Igreja do Nazareno de Infulene celebrated the dedication of their newly built sanctuary—a project that has taken almost 20 years since the initial ground-breaking in 2005. More than 500 church members, guests and distinguished members of the government from the Maputo Province gathered to celebrate this moment.

This celebration had three distinct moments. After the cutting of the ribbon by the DS, Rev Vasco Mabote, the congregants sang and danced as a gesture of celebration for the achievement. This building is even more special to the local congregation because the church used local resources and the help of local individuals to complete the structure.

The second moment was the appreciation of various individuals: Nazarenes and non-Nazarenes who donated their resources for the construction of the sanctuary. All of them were given Certificate of Merit for their significant contribution. The Governor of Maputo Province was present and centred his speech on the need for churches to continue praying and preaching the message of reconciliation. Additionally, he asked the church to pray for the government to seek wisdom from God to lead the country of Mozambique well. As a vote of thanks from the government, he gifted the church 30 plastic chairs for the new sanctuary.

In the spirit of appreciation, Rev Agostao Zitha, current pastor of Igreja de Infulene, presented an emotional appreciation of all the former pastors of the church, since its conception in 1964.

The final special moment was when Rev Vasco Mabote preached a message of encouragement to all those who had a hand in the success of the construction of the sanctuary. God is doing marvellous things in Mozambique, and the Church of the Nazarene continues to play a crucial role in these things. The church is growing, showing its maturity and a sense of ownership.
