University Celebrates a Major Milestone: Registration and Accreditation Achieved
On 20 September 2024, Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU) was awarded Full Registration and Accreditation certificates by Eswatini Higher Education Council (ESHEC), marking a significant milestone for the university in its commitment to academic excellence and student success. The accreditation process, which commenced in July 2023, involved rigorous assessment of the university’s academic programmes, faculty qualifications and institutional resources. The duration of accreditation is for a period of 5 years, after which the institution will have to undergo a similar exercise to maintain the status.
“The full registration of SANU and accreditation of our programmes by ESHEC reflects our commitment to providing a good educational experience for our students,” said Dr Faith Busisiwe Mlotsa-Mngomezulu, the Vice Chancellor of the University. “We are happy for this milestone which will allow us to further strengthen our quality assurance systems and better serve our students and community. To our management, faculties and staff, your dedication, hard work and the passion for teaching have been the backbone of our success. It is your unwavering commitment to our students that has enabled us to reach this remarkable achievement. SANU strives to promote academic excellence that hinges on quality education that responds to socioeconomic needs of the country and beyond.”
The development will help the university to also strengthen its engagements with other accredited institutions and organisations. As SANU moves forward, the focus will remain on fostering programme development, research and innovation, stakeholder engagement, inclusivity and academic integrity, ensuring that students are equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Handing over the Full Registration and Accreditation certificates to SANU, the Chief Executive Officer of ESHEC, Dr Loretta Mkhonta stated that, “Accreditation is not just a regulatory requirement but a critical assurance of the quality of education offered to students. SANU, has demonstrated its commitment to continuous improvement and in providing programmes that align with both national and international benchmarks.” She also indicated that ESHEC is committed to work closely with institutions like SANU to promote vibrant, forward-thinking and sustainable education system. She ended her speech by encouraging SANU to continue to grow and excel and nurture future leaders who will contribute to the development of the nation and beyond.
“This is a proud moment for all of us—the church, our partners, staff and students,” said Reverend Jabulani Gamedze who was standing-in for the National Board Chairperson of the Church of the Nazarene, Eswatini. “It’s an affirmation of unity, hard work and the vibrant community we have here.” Also in attendance at this momentous occasion were the university’s members of executive management, ESHEC officers, deans of faculties, HODs, lecturers, students and other members of staff of the university.
