Rev Dance Gamalami Mathebula Named DS
The Africa South Field extends a warm welcome to Rev Dance Gamalami Mathebula, who has been appointed as the new District Superintendent of the RSA Drakensberg District. This appointment, made by the General Superintendent in Jurisdiction, Dr Filimão Chambo, will take effect on 1 July 2025, and will continue throughout the current church term, concluding with the January 2028 Assembly.
Rev Mathebula brings over two decades of dedicated service to the Church of the Nazarene. He holds a National Diploma in Theology from NTC-SA and has furthered his education at the University of South Africa (UNISA), where he earned a Bachelor of Theology Honours in Theological Ethics, focusing on Clinical Pastoral Counselling and Environmental Care. He is committed to ongoing growth through both formal education and practical ministry engagement.
Notable highlights of his ministry include:
• General Board Membership: Rev Mathebula serves as a member of the General Board representing the Africa Region.
• Discipleship and Leadership Development: He is dedicated to discipling church members and nurturing emerging leaders through structured ministry training and spiritual formation.
• Educational Commitment: His strong commitment to enhancing his understanding of theology and pastoral care has been pivotal in guiding his congregation and fostering spiritual growth within the community.
• Community Engagement: Rev Mathebula actively participates in community development initiatives, notably contributing to the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultations. These efforts aim to address critical development needs and promote social cohesion within the municipality.
• Holistic Ministry Vision: He embodies a ministry philosophy that integrates biblical teaching, community service, leadership development and personal discipleship.
Rev Mathebula is recognised for his exemplary leadership, profound spiritual maturity and unwavering commitment to the mission and work of the church. His appointment follows the commendable tenure of Rev Muriel Mambane, who led the RSA Drakensberg District effectively.
