From June 9-16th Nazarenes from around the world come together for the Convention and General Assembly after being apart six years due to covid-19 pandemic. This was a time of great celebration within the Nazarene family.

We praise God for the special time that we had to collectively proclaim that Jesus is Lord! Africa Region was represented in the Nazarene Discipleship International (NDI) Convention with approximately 80 delegates. The NDI delegates participated in the plenary sessions and different workshops led by brothers and sisters from around the world addressing important themes for the growth of this precious ministry. The common thread among all that was shared was the reminder that the call to “make Christlike disciples in the nations” continues to resonate throughout the history of our denomination.

With a clear understanding that our calling remains unchanged, we recognize that the tools to accomplish it can vary in different historical eras and cultural contexts. Many of these tools were shared during those days, leaving us filled with new ideas and challenges. One such tool is Orality, which is well-known in our region. Brothers and Sisters from Africa shared its effectiveness and the testimonies of what the Lord has done among us through it.

Children were part of the gathering, and we had the World Quiz where approximately 2000 children from five world areas demonstrated how they have been learning God’s Word and over 1300 received their awards. I pray that God will continue to speak in the lives of these children, and can say just as the Psalmist “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalms 119:11).

I was glad to be in a place where I’m reminded of the vastness of God. Our hearts were ignited as we witnessed and heard about God’s movement within the global Nazarene community. This inspiration compels us to do more and to strive for even greater impact.

To conclude, we would like to congratulate Rev. Susan Booth, the Africa South Field NDI Coordinator for her election as the NDI General Board Representative!
