DS Retreat in East Africa
With a theme of โFaithful Stewards Across Generations: Leading with Authentic Presence for a Relevant and Interdependent Church,โ the DSโs and their spouses from across the Africa East Field met from the 13th to 15th of March, at the Clarence Matheny Institute in Limuru Town, Kenya. Participants included all field District Superintendents and their spouses, field ministry coordinators, the field strategy coordinator and representatives from key institutions such as Africa Nazarene University and Nazarene Bible College of East Africa. The conference was further enriched by invited guests, including the Jurisdictional General Superintendent, Dr Scott Daniels and others.
The conference was organised to equip, strengthen and align church leaders and spouses for more effective ministry. It addressed key needs such as district development, retirement planning and sharing critical ministry updates. The gathering also created space for reflection and collaboration.
The idea for the conference is part of a yearly initiative led by the Rev Stanley Ushe, FSC, designed to create a consistent platform where leaders across the field can meet, interact and learn from one another. At its core, the initiative seeks to strengthen ministries by fostering unity and shared vision among leaders.
One of the most powerful highlights of the conference was the reminder by our JGS that Christian leadership is not about position, but about service. Leaders were challenged to see themselves not at the top of the organisation, but as shepherds called to serve and empower pastors and laity for the work of ministry. โWe are not at the top of the chart; we are at the bottom, serving and equipping those God has called,โ said Dr Daniels.
Through Scripture, prayer and reflection, participants were encouraged that even in seasons of conflict and uncertainty, God has not abandoned them.
