A New District is Born!

The delegates to the 20th District Assembly of the Zambia Luapula Northern District have voted to divide their district and to form a new district named Zambia North District, held in Mansa, Zambia, on 25 October 2025. The growth of the Church of the Nazarene has been significant across parts of Luapula, Northern and Muchinga Provinces with many professions of faith through the use the Jesus Film, revivals and crusades. The event is important because it is a testimony of what the Lord is doing on the district.

The work of the church grew so much in northern Zambia recently, and it became too difficult for one district office to manage everything that was happening. In fact, the church that is the furthest from the district centre is over 1000 km away, making it difficult for the district office to help them.

The foundation for this district was laid back in 1999 when the Lord called Rev Francis Mwansa to leave the city church and start new work in the northern regions of Zambia. Not knowing where to stay or who will take care of the needs of his family, he and his wife trusted the Lord. With the Jesus Film tool on their side, they started in Mansa, a provincial head office of Luapula Province with only the 5 people, including Rev Mwansa and his wife.

They carried the Jesus Film equipment on their shoulders, moving from one location to the another, winning the lost for Christ. God is faithful to His Word; the church began to grow and expanded to two more provinces.  Today, the work has grown to slightly over 200 churches, leading to the inevitability and need to divide the district.

We thank God for this exponential growth in the northern part of Zambia!
