Postcard from Africa: Togo
Emmanuel is 26 years old, and was raised as Muslim. During the Christmas holidays he returned to his home village in Togo. He heard they were showing a movie in the park by the school. Thinking that it could be fun, he decided to go with some friends and see what was happening.
Arriving at the school with his friends, there was an excitement to watch something new and different. Once he realised it was a film about Jesus, he almost left in a hurry, having no desire to watch such a movie. He was especially concerned about another Muslim seeing him there watching this heretical movie. But there was something inside of him that said he must wait a while and see what happens.
There was a moment during the movie, without Emmanuel even realising it, that captivated him. He could not stop watching the film! He stayed until the end of the movie. Seeing Jesus die on the cross for the lives of his followers was very touching. Mohamed had never given him the clear conviction that Jesus gave him. At this point, Emmanuel believed that Jesus is the way and the truth, and he gave his life to Jesus.
“I am very happy because Jesus is my Saviour,” said Emmanuel. Let us remember to pray for Emmanuel, for his safety, and as he prays for his entire family to accept his new faith.
