South Field

Field Strategic Coordinator – Rev. Musawenkhosi Kunene

The countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland constitute the South Field of the Church of the Nazarene in the Africa region. All together, the field has a total of 23 districts with an estimated total membership of 85 000 people and about 800 local churches.

The South Field seeks to provide a grace environment where the un-churched can have a transformation encounter with God through faith in Jesus Christ; as well as to disciple the unreached into a lifestyle of being God’s agents of change in their communities. The field facilitates transformation through a number of activities and initiatives, including: planting churches; resourcing the building of children’s development centers, schools, higher education institutions and healthcare centres in the form of clinics and hospitals; and creating a presence of the Church at public institutions for higher learning.

The field contributes to the collective goals of the Africa region by mobilizing the church across the field to respond to a call to urban ministry by taking the church to the cities, developing district leadership through workshops, as well as encouraging and assisting districts to host annual pastor’s retreats.

Over the next few years, the South Field has set the following goals:
• 2018 will be declared the year of reaching our cities for Christ, by mobilizing the church to reach urban communities and establish church presence at universities.
• 2019 will be the year of harvest under the slogan: “No community to be left untouched.”
• In 2020 we anticipate that we will be celebrating a 100 000 membership growth.

The South Field works in response to the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20) as well as in line with the mission statement of the Church of the Nazarene, “Making Christ-like disciples in the nations”. We are driven by the reality that people are lost in sin and Jesus is the only hope for human salvation.
